The Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife(HSL), a Harvard Medical School (HMS) teaching affiliate, is seeking an experienced PhD or MD clinical investigator to co-direct its research center focused on promoting high quality palliative care and medical decision-making among older adults. We are seeking a talented investigator with skills to lead to medical decision-making component of the Center. The co-director will take in leadership in conducting research studies that involve the development and evaluation novel approaches to promote preference-based care amongst vulnerable older adults, particularly in the context of potentially life-limiting illness, and ultimately translating their work into health care policies and practices that will benefit this population.

The ideal candidate should have an advanced degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, sociology, or related fields, and a national reputation as a leader in decision sciences research among older adults. They should have a solid track record of NIH, AHRQ, VA, and/or other government and foundation funding and qualify for a Harvard Medical School faculty appointment. We are interested in someone who will build inter-professional collaborations with other clinical investigators at the Marcus Institute whose fields could apply methodologies in decision sciences to enrich their applied research in dementia, delirium, falls, balance and mobility, musculoskeletal disorders, palliative care, and blood pressure dysregulation. The candidate will be expected to devote effort to conducting their own funded research, collaborating with senior investigators within and outside of HSL and the Marcus Institute, mentoring junior investigators, and growing the breadth and depth of the Center for Palliative and Preference-Based Care Research among Older Adults. He or she will be expected to help supervise research fellows and participate in various seminars and teaching activities.

The new co-Director will hold faculty positions at the Marcus Institute, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Medicine, and HMS. They will have access to Marcus Institute Core resources including its administrative, biostatistics, and informatics cores and will be encouraged to extend their research to the 3,000 seniors living in Hebrew SeniorLife’s housing facilities.
