Position Level: Individual Contributor 

Department: Human Resources (HR)

Position Status: Permanent  

Activity Rate: 100 % activity rate, 37.5 hours per week 

Location: Toronto/Montreal, options for working remotely in Canada based on pre-approval 

Salary Grade: Level C on the MSF Canada Salary Grid, $66,513 per year

Status: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Impact Statement

As a key member of the People and Culture team, the HR Business Partner is an experienced human resource professional who works directly with all levels of leadership in the Fundraising Department to develop best practices in people management that directly supports departmental goals. Working as a partner with advanced business acumen, the HRBP supports Fundraising in the attraction, selection, development and retention of staff to ensure that the HR needs of the team are met and staff has access to HR services. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Fundraising department in aligning HR and people strategies with the overall strategic objectives 
  • Provide guidance and support to the Fundraising leadership team, as appropriate, in the interpretation and implementation of MSF Canada HR policies and practices 
  • Develop HR acumen in the leadership team, supporting with workforce planning, identifying competencies, skills, and abilities required on their teams, and reviewing organizational design and jobs in such a way that supports the Fundraising department in meeting its objectives 
  • Accompany managers and employees through the application and implementation of various HR Talent programs, such as recruitment, onboarding, performance, and development 
  • Accompany managers and employees through performance improvement plans and/or any disciplinary measures 
  • Take initiative on HR processes that are being delayed in order to support the Fundraising department in achieving its desired objectives, carrying out tasks that can range from administrative to strategic in nature  
  • Work alongside team members to ensure that MSF Canada’s values and principles are upheld in daily interactions and work relationships, ensuring mutual respect, transparency, and a positive work environment, referring responsible behaviour cases to the HR Officer or the Senior Manager of People and Culture, depending on the complexity of the case.

  • Strategic HR and Organizational Design - Provides guidance, expertise and input on people strategy, workforce planning and HR practice; Support the ongoing review on the organizational structure of the Fundraising department by providing analytical, technical and talent-centered expertise based on best practices in organizational design, recommending changes that support a dynamic, effective and cohesive team structure; Review roles, functions and jobs, working with leadership to build/update job descriptions, identify competencies, skills and abilities required to be successful, evaluate and classify jobs based on the MSF Canada function and salary grids, and use various mechanisms to support job enlargement, enhancement and evolution 
  • Talent Programs and performance management  - Advise and coach line managers and staff on development plans, individual and team goal setting, performance metrics and feedback, and career mapping; Accompany managers and employees in onboarding activities, planning and coordination  
  • Culture, values and team dynamic   - Provide sound advice to managers on ways to build a positive and productive work environment incorporating MSF values, an ED&I lens, and anti-racist/anti-oppression frameworks, into the ways of working

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Experience as an HR business partner, HR generalist or similar 
  • Working knowledge/experience of multiple human resource disciplines, including organizational design, comp/ben, equity, diversity and inclusion, performance management, training and development and federal and provincial employment laws. 
  • Experience in an international non-profit organization, is an asset 
  • Experience in supporting the Fundraising function of a non-profit, is an asset 

Education, Certifications, and Languages

  • Education (or theoretical training) in a field related to Human Resources, or an equivalent amount of professional experience  
  • English language proficiency required
  • Training required (will be provided upon hire)
